This unusual, variegated Asian perennnial native plant, with its beautiful, mottled purple orchid-like flowers, is perfect for the woodland or shade garden. The foliage of "Gilt Edge" is delicately outlined in gold, and as the plant grows larger, so does the gold. Tricyrtis formosana "Gilt Edge" grows from 18-24 inches in full or partial shade. Toad Lily blooms late and spreads reliably. Zones 5-9. Quarts.

There is no photo of my own yet, but the most beautiful photos of Tricyrtis formosana "Seiryu" you can imagine can be found right here.
Tricyrtis "Seiryu" is a vigorous grower with blooms on the ends of the stems. Although generally low growing, stems can reach to around two feet, the lightly spotted blooms are white with amethyst tips. It prefers part to full shade in humus rich, moist, and well-drained soil. Zones (4) 5-9. Quarts.

I just can't seem to get enough of these exquisite, shade-loving Japanese Toad Lilies, and "Sinonome" is particularly beautiful. Growing from two to three feet tall, with a spread of two feet, Tricyrtis "Sinonome" has one-inch, purple and white speckled blooms in late summer/early fall. Although "Sinonome" likes slightly moist soil, once established, this Japanese Toad Lily is quite drought tolerant. This Tricyrtis hirta x formosana hybrid is just the ticket for a lightly shaded woodland garden. Zones 5-9. Quarts.

"Tricyrtis "Togen" was so unexpected when it bloomed for the first time. The flowers are white with soft lavender tips, and there are no spots! Beautiful!. Like "Seiryu," this one also blooms on the ends of the stems. It would make a lovely edging or addition to a rock garden. Humus-rich moist, and well- drained soil in full or part shade. Zones (5) 6-9. Quarts.
