Houttuynia cordata, an easy to please ground
cover, grows to about 10 inches, likes wet or dry soil, sun or shade. I have Houttuynia cordata growing at the edge of a pond where it spreads gently. Although not as showy as its counterpart, "Chameleon," I have come to prefer it for its simple, deep green heart-shaped leaves that are delicately edged in red. White flowers with prominent central cones
appear in mid-summer. Zones 5-9. Quarts. Note: There are those who find this plant too aggessive, but it is a groundcover and that is its job. Please be sure that you have space for this lovely perennial before purchase.

With leaves of dark pink, cream, and green all swirled together and outlined in red, Houttuynia cordata "Chameleon" is a bold splash of color for the garden. Like its more subdued counterpart, "Chameleon" makes a fine, spreading ground cover or accent and is easy to please. "Chameleon" withstands sun or shade and wet to dry soil. And, as if it needed any help, "Chameleon" has white flowers that appear in midsummer to brighten up this colorful perennial even more. Hourttuynia cordata "Chameleon" grows from 8 to 12 inches tall in Zones 5-9. Quarts. (Note: There are those who may find this plant aggressive, but it is ground cover, and that is its job. Please be sure that you have space for this lovely perennial before purchase.)
