Campsis radicans (Trumpet Vine)
Campsis radicans is a native woody vine that many consider invasive, particularly in the South. I have grown Trumpet Vine for many years on a support, and it is kept itself in check. If you want a vine that has beautiful glossy green leaves and spectacular red/orange trumpet flowers to brighten a wall, trellis, fence, or other support, then Trumpet Vine will do the trick. Campsis radicans grows from 20 to 30 feet in sun or partial shade in Zones 4-10. One word of caution: some people find that handling the plant can cause skin irritation; however, that has never been my experience.
