Astilbe chinensis
(Chinese Astilbe)
$

Growing only to about eight inches, this pretty, rosy pink Chinese Astilbe is my favorite Astilbe because it's so reliable, long blooming, long lived, and it spreads nicely so that pieces can be dug up easily and moved to other spots in the garden.  That's a lot for one perennial plant to offer, but Astilbe chinensis does, and it does so admirably.  Astilbe chinensis is later blooming than most Astilbe (early July here in Zone 6), takes a little shade with its sun, and prefers moist, well drained soil.  Zones 5-8 .
