Amsonia, also known as Blue Star, is a lovely native American wildflower that is as at home in the woodland garden as it is in the perennial garden.  Blue Star (in the foreground of the photo at left) grows from two to three feet with willowy green leaves and the palest of blue, star-shaped flowers in early spring.  Blue Star is a slow-growing perennial plant, but once it takes off, it gets larger and more beautiful each year.   Blue Star is, without a doubt, one of the "stars" in the plant kingdom and will be in your perennial garden, too.  Sun/partial shade and well-drained soil in Zones 3-9.)  Quarts.
